Furnace Failure in Southlake, TX
Janet has been a long-time VIP of Texas Air Doctors. She has had regular maintenance on her 15-year-old system for the past 8 years. She woke up to the smell of something burning. It almost smelled like plastic burning. She texted the VIP number and requested service. Taylor answered the text quickly and told Janet she will have a tech out the same day. Janet was worried that the system wasn't going to be repairable and asked Taylor to send Brian since he knows her system the best. Janet showed Brian where the indoor furnace was, and Brian could smell the odor coming from the indoor blower. When he opened it up, he could see the melted wire inside the motor housing. He checked the entire system from the furnace to the outdoor unit and even the main breakers for possible causes. He found that the 15-year-old system had a bad control board that caused the blower motor to go out. Brian went downstairs to show Janet the bad parts and explained what caused the smell inside her house. After discussing the failure and going over the options of replacement vs repair, Janet said she would prefer a repair since she had other projects going at the time. Brian asked Deandra in the dispatch office to contract Trane to have the parts expedited for same-day pickup. Brian was back in an hour with the parts and had them installed before 5 PM. Brian tested the system and checked the refrigerant to make sure it was running efficiently. He had to add one pound of freon and had the house cool like it was the middle of winter on a 100-degree day.
